What kind of grades do the members of ZBT get?
Grades are our top priority. Academic achievement is one of our
fraternity's goals, and we have always competed for the Governor's Cup,
awarded to UF's top academic chapter. We have won this award multiple
times and have had the number 1 G.P.A. amongst Greek Organizations for
the past few years. Often times good grades are an important concern
with students that plan to join a fraternity. We have a diverse
assortment of majors from Engineering, Biology, to Business and
Criminology. This means that there is always someone willing to help
when you are having trouble. Brothers are never to be afraid to ask for
help or advice, everyone is always ready and willing to help one
another.
What is there to know about the ZBT house?
The
ZBT house at the University of Florida is very unique. We are fortunate
to have a very large house in a great location. Being in the middle of
downtown and midtown has proved to have great benefits. Only 3 blocks
from campus, it's an easy walk to and from classes. The house itself is
ridiculous. It's 3 stories high and contains 38 rooms. The bottom floor
has a living room with a 42 inch flat-screen television. The recreation
room has couches for sitting, tables for eating, and a huge television
for watching sports and HD television. Perhaps the most unique aspect
of our house is that everyone is always welcome and are made to feel so
by all the Brothers. Most Brothers will tell you that the best part of
living in the house is that you are always around people you want to be
around and there's always someone that wants to do something.
How active is your house in intramurals?
We compete in all fraternity intramurals. We won the 2001 Orange League
Flag Football championship and the 2005 blue league championship in
basketball. Anyone who goes to UF usually gets involved with sports. At
ZBT, we encourage it. We participate in many Intramural sports such as:
football, volleyball, softball, basketball, soccer, and swimming. The
great part of it is that anyone, no matter what skill level, is invited
to play. The bottom line is that sports at ZBT can be fun and relaxed,
or competitive and challenging- and no matter what your skill level,
there's always something to play.
Can I afford the dues at ZBT?
Anyone can afford the dues at ZBT. We have individual payment plans and schedules, anyone who wants to be involved can.
How many parties do you have throughout the semester?
We have one enormous theme party in the spring: ZBTahiti and one in the
fall: ZBTundra. In addition, we have several "late nights," 3-4 socials
with sororities, 6-7 date functions and various other events.
What are some advantages to membership in ZBT, as opposed to other fraternities?
ZBT is made up of diversity. We are well-rounded individuals with
similar goals, and most importantly, strong brotherhood.
How involved is ZBT in on-campus activities?
Our brothers can be found in activities ranging from Florida Cicerones,
Student Government (senate and cabinet), Florida Blue Key, FBK Speakers
Bureau, Freshman Leadership Council, IRHA, Gator Growl, to Dance
Marathon. We strive to take an active role around UF's campus.
In addition to participating in other Greek philanthropic events, we also spend time raising money for charities and other great causes in the area. ZBT has worked hard to raise money for Childrens Miracle Network. The past three consecutive years ZBT has held a Kickball Tournament in the Fall and introduced a new fundraiser, Get on the Ball, in the Spring. The proceeds from this event help fund housing for families in need. Each year, ZBT also has several brothers that dance in UF's Dance Marathon, which in 2003 raised approximately $250,000.
What kind of time commitment should I expect?
By putting a great amount of effort into any fraternity, you will gain
friendship, brotherhood, and fond memories. By participating in as many
activities as you can you will meet many new people and be part of new
experiences.
In 1989, Zeta Beta Tau abolished pledging. Adopting a non-pledging/non-hazing policy, ZBT now stands by its Brotherhood Program. There is no pledge period. The Brotherhood Program is a four year program which requires the same standards of all members, be they freshmen or seniors. Zeta Beta Tau does not treat new members as second class citizens. You become a brother, with all of the rights and responsibilities given to ZBT brothers, when you accept a bid from our fraternity. Instead of pledging, we offer a program to help new brothers adapt to ZBT life. This brotherhood program teaches a new level of responsibility and leadership to ZBT members.
